Leon Russell

After being a ubiquitous presence as a highly versatile session musician/arranger on the 1960s L.A. scene, Leon Russell became one of the highest-profile artists of the '70s. He released a string of albums, wrote hit songs for himself and others ("A Song for You," "Delta Lady," "Superstar"), and had key participation in such epic events as Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen tour and George Harrison's Concert for Bangladesh. Subsequently, Russell fell way off the radar until Elton John, citing him as a profound influence, dug Russell out of near obscurity and collaborated with him on 2010's The Union, Russell's swampy drawl and gospel-fueled piano work miraculously intact. A steady stream of accolades followed, and Russell was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2011. He returns leading a full band.
