Le Cirque Rouge Cabaret & Burlesque: 'Twas the Night Before...
During the hectic season, Christmas parties can start to blend together. There's generally an impersonal gift exchange, a soundtrack of jingly standards, a tinsel-strewn tree, and on the riskier side, perhaps, mistletoe hanging near the eggnog, all the better to goad frisky souls. Even the wilder of traditional Christmas parties, however, seldom feature dancers adorned in knee-high boots, salaciously placed tassels, and sparkling body glitter. Such costumes rank among the unique charms of 'Twas the Night Before..., the holiday show from acclaimed burlesque troupe Le Cirque Rouge. Celebrating its 11th season, the irrepressibly saucy group is known for playful fusions of historic performance styles, and has arranged its latest production around lesser known holiday songs that evoke an atmosphere far removed from the soothing croon of Bing Crosby. Recreating the flirtatious staging of classic burlesque with a knowingly modern wink and a vaudevillian sense of humor, the production furthers Le Cirque Rogue's goal of reclaiming an art form that has too often been dismissively categorized as stripping. Scored to the holiday season's most eccentric soundtrack, 'Twas the Night Before... looks to deliver a Christmas celebration with enough irreverent humor to even convince 'Ol Saint Nick that the most fun parties tend to be a little naughty. 21+.
