Laura Stack’s hypercolor ink paintings have a biomorphic aspect. Their imagery conjures our sense of pattern or shape recognition, but is so vividly and deliciously skewed as to become almost surreal. Stack is concerned, it turns out, with how the biological and synthetic can meet and experience harmony. In this exhibition, she’s paired with Melissa Loop, whose vibrant paintings of Mayan ruins are also, at once, historical and futuristic. There are stories in both these artists’ works begging to be told. There will be an opening reception, Saturday, September 10, from 7 to 10 p.m.
