Larry Coryell Trio

A key pioneer of jazz-rock, guitarist Larry Coryell fused incendiary rock and blues elements with jazz, achieving iconic status in the 1970s. He first hit the spotlight with Gary Burton's band in the late '60s, gradually expanding his scope until he was constantly shuffling among genres, running the gamut from Jack Bruce to Charles Mingus and the 5th Dimension. His own Eleventh House band, initially featuring trumpeter Randy Brecker and drummer Alphonse Mouzon, was a creative high point of the era, mixing soaring energy and high-minded concepts. He still sometimes plays with searing intensity while shredding boundaries but really is an eclecticist who roams from straight-ahead jazz to classical. Lately he's been working in the organ trio format that will be the focus in this last-minute booking at the AQ. Joining Coryell will be the redoubtable Mouzon and L.A.-based Joe Bagg on B-3. 18+.
