This beloved holiday happening takes the Gospel story of Jesus’ birth and uses it as an allegory for how we should welcome immigrants. A true community celebration put together by HOBT and St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church — with the help of neighboring businesses, volunteers, and artists — this production is a multi-location ritual created in the Mexican tradition of la Posadas, a nine-day celebration featuring Christmas processions. La Natividad is as magical as it is poignant: There’s a wonderful angel choir, playful shepherds, and an event that makes the audience an essential part of the story. This is more than a performance; it’s a celebration with a powerful message that’s absolutely essential in today’s xenophobic climate. Be sure to stay for the community feast that takes place after each show.
