Anyone who saw Kyle Abraham's "My Quarreling Heart," created for the Zenon Dance Company in 2011, knows that he's a choreographer of fierce urgency. Now he brings his own ensemble to town for "Live! The Realest MC," a blend of street and contemporary dance moves that riffs on the Pinocchio tale by way of conformity and the quest for acceptance in the world of hip-hop celebrity. Trust the wily Abraham to bring plenty of dark humor to this semi-autobiographical tale of growing up black and gay in the testosterone-fueled world of hip hop. What does it take to become a "real" boy, or man, in that culture? And how do lots of sequins figure in? Don't miss Abraham's phenomenal opening solo, in which he transforms from awkward puppet to fully loaded popper. (Photo by Cherylynn Tsushima)
