Kenny Smith

Kenny Smith may be the ultimate slacker. He flunked out of college, and was let go from every job he ever had. He obviously needed a vocation that would let him be his own boss, which explains why he became a standup comic. It's a job that lets him embrace his inner do-nothing. "I just saved a bundle of money," he announces to an audience, "by switching to no car insurance." It's ironic that, as a college dropout, he's made a name for himself touring universities. Of course, he still knows how to speak to young people. "Best way to sober yourself?" he tells them, "hit a curb." Lately he has been booking more dates, and has recently made the move to comedy clubs. His profile was also bolstered by an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. Perhaps it's those university gigs, though, that have made him more socially conscious. "Don't say the 'n-word,' white people, no matter how many CDs you have, no matter how many jerseys you have. 'Black people say it,' you say. Well, that's the rule. Black people have had a hard enough time. Not you in your Fubu shirt and big sweatpants — cut it out. I don't even say 'nickel' anymore. It's too close. I say, 'Gimme five cents.'" With Pat Susmilch.
