Warm, slyly sophisticated, and glowing with seasonal cheer, jazz singer/pianist Karrin Allyson's new Christmas collection, Yuletide Hideaway, is a genuine charmer. Allyson, a versatile vocalist who easily ranges from bop to pop, is a superb song interpreter who can freshen up the most familiar material, as she does on standards like "The Christmas Song" and "Winter Wonderland." Besides Evans's nugget, Allyson digs up a couple more obscure treasures with local connections: St. Paul native Dave Frishberg's jaunty "Snowbound," and "I Like Snow," written by Minnesotan Patty McGovern (ex-wife of legendary jazz DJ Leigh Kamman) from a 1956 album coveted by collectors.
Mondays, Sundays, 7 & 9 p.m. Starts: Dec. 22. Continues through Dec. 23, 2013
