June of Arc
Note to playwrights: The 1950s ended nearly 50 years ago; it's time to find a new shorthand for bland conformity. Ryan Hill's script never moves far beyond the "My, weren't those oppressive, soul-crushing times" tale we've seen so often before. The show essentially presents a monologue by übermom June Cleaver (a fine Heather Stone), who looks back at her lost dreams as her husband and children demonstrate decades of decay and downward mobility. That is broken up by onstage presentations of era commercials that attempt to draw irony from a well that long ago dried up.
