JR Brow

After 20-some years doing standup, JR Brow has amassed quite a collection of jokes, characters, and songs. The mix has developed into a unique blend of comedy, with a little music thrown in. "It's a potpourri," he explains. "I guess it's basically me telling long stories that have jokes inside of them about my family, about music, and how it's really just one giant chord." The tunes usually come at the end of the set. "That's sort of the icing on the cake," he says. The songs are unique in that they're not particularly silly, nor are they parodies — though he did do those at one time. After playing so many different styles of music over the years, Brow has noticed that many songs are very similar in structure to other songs, so he has fun with that. For example, he'll give the audience a sense of what it would be like if Cheech and Chong covered "Hotel California." He also demonstrates how recognizable just the first two notes of "Sweet Home Alabama" are. Brow has also made several trips overseas to entertain the troops. He's no stranger to military life, as his father was an army drill instructor. "I was six years old when he told me, 'You gotta take care of your shit,'" Brow recalls. "I'm six. I don't have a huge vocabulary. What do you mean? Jiggle the handle?" 18+; 21+ later shows.
