JR Brow is living the life of a road comic, speaking to City Pages from somewhere on an interstate in Iowa. "I'm driving from Burlington, Iowa, to Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Jealous? I'm going from people who never went to college to a college town." Previously, Brow spent several months overseas entertaining the troops. He performed everywhere, from Afghanistan to Germany, though the former he found puzzling. "We're still there for some reason. Gotta keep them down and keep an eye on them." Being back in the U.S gives him chance to unwind a bit more onstage. "I think [my set] takes on a more patriotic tone when I'm performing for the troops," he says. "Where here, I can get a little looser because people can drink and have a good time and no one has a weapon strapped to their leg. At least, I hope they don't." No matter where he goes, though, the Texas native usually feels out of place, and isn't quite sure how to react to things. "I was performing in Edmonton, Alberta," he says, "and it was 48 degrees below zero. When Fahrenheit and Celsius give up, something is wrong. I actually took a cab to a restaurant I could see from across the street. The cab driver said 'Where to, buddy?' I said 'There, here's $10' and pointed." 18+; 21+ later shows. Wednesday's show is sold out.
