Jon Dore

There's a reason he's known as "TV's Jon Dore." It all began when the Canadian funnyman began studying television production in college. "I fell in love with it completely. It was the first thing I ever studied that I loved," he says. "Every aspect of it. And I fell in love with the idea of being on television. The group I was in was comedy-obsessed, and we would try to apply any silly idea we had to whatever project we were working on." When a comedy club opened up in the neighborhood, Dore went and inquired about open-mic night, and eventually took the plunge. "TV broadcasting inspired me to do something creative, and that led to me trying standup, and it was terrible." He quickly improved, but comedy wasn't very lucrative, so he gave acting a try. "I put together a demo reel, and wound up being hired by a show called Canadian Idol." The production company behind that program decided to give him his own show. "And for two years we got away with murder." When the series wasn't renewed, Dore headed for Los Angeles. "The weather's always good and the margaritas are always fresh," he adds. Comedy fans may recognize Dore from his appearances with fellow comic and friend Rory Scovel, in which both perform standup simultaneously. It's still one of the most talked about standup performances ever on Conan. 18+.
