John Moses

Canadian-born comedian John Moses has been to Minneapolis once — to change planes. "It's a nice place to stop over," he says. This week, he'll get a more in-depth take on the Twin Cities when he performs at Rick Bronson's House of Comedy. "I feel Minnesota has a lot in common with Canada," he says. "A love for hockey, the weather." Based in New York for the past decade or so, the Toronto native really only misses one thing about his homeland is proper: hockey coverage. He also has a message for hockey fans here. "I was heartbroken for you when the North Stars went to Dallas," he says. "I know you are hockey-loving people, and I think there shouldn't be a hockey team where it doesn't snow. And I'm glad you got the Wild, but that has to be one of the worst nicknames and logos in hockey history." While that might rile up the hockey faithful here, that kind of talk merely confirms that Moses is, as he describes himself, "a bit of an attention whore." His own family recognized this early on. "I went to college to study economics," he says. "Even my dad was like, 'Whoa.' He was the one that pushed me to do my first open mic. At the time I was busy drinking and drugging out of college. So, comedy for me is part passion, part I'm not qualified to do anything else." 18+; 21+ later shows.
