John Alspach: Recent Works
What would happen if you combined graffiti, billboards, and city detritus into one piece of art? The result may be something similar to the works of John Alspach. The Minneapolis artist, who helms Shiny Robot Studio, is inspired by the things you may expect to find in an urban atmosphere, including tagging, old advertising, rusty pipes, and weathered surfaces. He'll be exhibiting collages this month and next at the Gallery @ Fox Tax, a business that is part gallery space, part tax service. Alspach's recent works have included rust stains as Rorschach tests, swaths of colorful advertising ripped beyond the point of recognition, and a piece titled White Castle that captures the general ambience one may expect in an alleyway. The opening reception is from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, October 15.
