“I’ve been performing standup for over 20 years,” says comedian Jodie Maruska, who will co-headline with Jason Schommer at the Joke Joint. “I started way back when comics were still rock stars.” She got into improv first, but after attending an open mic, she decided to have a go at standup. “I absolutely fell in love,” she recalls, “and I killed. The next time I bombed, of course.” She eventually wound up doing it full-time for many years. “I had an agent, worked the road, and did a lot of events. I had a really great gay male following, so I did a lot of gay pride events and things like that and had such a good time.” Lately she’s been performing more, and plans to submit to several comedy festivals around the country in 2018. “I’m blessed that 20-some years later I can still go out and make people laugh. I try to get up onstage every week. I’m aware I don’t do it as much as I should, but I love it. I’m not right if I don’t get onstage at some point during the week.”
