James Sewell Ballet: Ballet Works Project
Each winter, James Sewell Ballet teams up with a variety of dancers and choreographers to stretch the meaning of ballet and modern dance in a variety of new pieces that range from just outside the box to wildly experimental. This time around, the troupe, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, will return to the intimate TEK Box Theatre to once again showcase up-and-coming talents. Company member Nicky Coelho will explore freedom and human nature in a piece inspired by incidents from the 1960s. Blake Nellis — whose work has been seen recently at the Walker Art Center, Red Eye Theater, and Bryant-Lake Bowl — will bring high-energy street style and improvisational movements to the stage. Finally, Norbert De La Cruz III will be making his Minneapolis debut. (Image by Nicky Coelho)
Fridays, Saturdays, 8 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m. Starts: Jan. 24. Continues through Feb. 9, 2014
