Never one to take it easy, Jackson Browne has been out and about for the better part of a year following last fall's release of Time the Conqueror (Inside), a blithe acknowledgement of mortality to coincide with his 60th birthday. In concluding the current stretch of his tour at the State Fair, Browne found the perfect place to show he and his longtime band are still rambunctious. He remains fully engaged as a political activist, and his songwriting genius is hardly running on empty. Amid topical tunes and reassertions of the power of love, Time, his first album of new material in a half-dozen years, proved Browne still has a knack for crafting catchy melodies and cogent lyrics in his trademark SoCal rock style. Time will certainly be told, but also expect a cavalcade of hits stretching back some 40 years. (photo by John Edwards 2008)
