"It's going well," says comedian Jackie Kashian. "Everyone seems to be pointed in a Jackie Kashian direction, which I am pleased about." The Milwaukee native, who considers the Acme her home club, returns to the Twin Cities to record her first DVD this week. "Acme is essentially producing it," she explains. Three of her shows will be taped in high-definition. "Then four local comics each show are going to do short sets, so they'll get HD-quality seven-minute sets that they can send to Letterman, or the Tonight Show, or wherever." She's been working on her new set diligently. "I was there last month featuring for Maria Bamford," she says. "There's this weird 20 minutes in the middle I needed to work on," she says. "And I told the crowd, 'If you liked that 30 minutes, come back in a few weeks and hear it again, plus a new 30.'" The DVD and CD will be titled This Will Make an Excellent Horcrux, a reference to the Harry Potter book and movie series. "It's a joke for the 17 billion people who have read Harry Potter," she says. The record label, however, was confused. "They said, 'We don't get it.' I told them, 'You don't have to; don't worry about it.'" It's fitting not only for Potter fans, but for fans of Kashian and her popular podcast The Dork Forest. "I've been doing it for such a long time, and I do it because it's fun. I enjoy talking to people about what they're into." 18+. (Photo by Michael Helms)
