Isaac Arvold: Second Hand Emotion

It's inevitable. If you're a creative type, it's likely that at some point in your career you will lose some of your work to unforeseeable circumstances, be it a misplaced notebook, virus-ridden hard drive, dead server, flaky curator, or random fire. Once gone, those projects are mourned as great ideas and fully realized pieces doomed to become memories forgotten in time. Artist Isaac Arvold recently experienced this when he lost a bag full of drawings and sketches while in transit. The notebooks, forever gone, contained works inspired by major life moments over the past few years, including a move to Brooklyn, failed relationships, and time spent touring with performers from the Rhymesayers family. For his latest exhibit, "Second Hand Emotion," the artist has attempted to reconstruct some of the key elements and ideas from those journals using previously scanned pieces, photographs, and his mind. On display will be 48 mixed-media paintings arranged together into large-scale murals. Only time will tell what new memories will be created through the experience. There will be an opening reception from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 21.
