Insights 2009: Ellen Lupton, Baltimore
Ellen Lupton is perhaps the most accessible, practical, prolific, and educational of the groups and individuals featured in this year's Insights series. She has organized numerous exhibitions of note as curator at the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum, including "Mechanical Brides" and "Skins." She has co-authored best-selling books that make design accessible to people who aren't in the design business, including D.I.Y.: Design It Yourself, Graphic Design: The New Basics, and even D.I.Y.: Kids, which is aimed at getting children interested in art and graphic design. Her editorial illustrations have been published in the New York Times, and she has a regular column in ReadyMade magazine. Needless to say, this AIGA gold medalist will have a lot to say about design this Tuesday, and should be an excellent closer to this year's lecture series.
