While some folks will be fighting car and foot traffic on Black Friday, others will be engaging in a different sort of darkness. Republic at Seven Corners will be celebrating Imperial brews, those dark, full-bodied stouts that pack a punch. Today’s menu will include 44 rare and barrel-aged selections, all brought up from the restaurant’s storage. Hard-to-find offerings include Lift Bridge’s Silhouette, a 2015 AleSmith Hammerhead Speedway Stout, and one keg of 2013 Rum King. “I don’t even know if there’s any of that left anywhere anymore,” owner Matty O’Reilly told City Pages a few weeks back. “The patience of not tapping those things... it was sort of this exercise, if you will, in restraint.” Goose Island’s Bourbon County Stout and 2016 and 2017 Surly Darkness will also be served. Flights will be available, but all of these selections are only while supplies last.
