Hot Metal Pour
There is nothing casual about making sculptures out of hot metal. Art on canvas can be corrected and clay is forgiving, but molding metal involves careful consideration, safety precautions, and the proper facilities. When you do it right, it's also pretty rewarding, and the whole process is incredibly memorable. This Saturday, visitors to the Franconia Sculpture Park will be able to take in the art form when professional artists from around the U.S. demonstrate their skills at the Hot Metal Pour. The event is the grand finale to a 10-day symposium featuring workshops, talks, and other special events both private and open to the public. Festival-goers looking to create and take a piece home can purchase a sand mold and carve their own designs into it using sharp tools. Artists will then pour metal onto the piece and allow it to cool. Throughout the day, Savage Aural Hotbed will provide a rhythmic drumming soundtrack to festivities, and food will be available from Taco Taxi and the Waffle Van.
