Hot Iron Pour
It might seem counterintuitive on these hot summer days to fire an iron furnace up to 2,750 degrees Fahrenheit. But if you can't stand the heat, stay out of the sculpture park. This Saturday, the Franconia Sculpture Park will reach molten volcanic levels creatively, and in some areas literally, at this year's Hot Iron Pour. During the day, U.S. and U.K. artists will be creating iron sculptures, the culmination of a weeklong residency with international artist Coral Lambert. Interested in creating your own art? For a mere $20-$40, you can make your own sculpture. Choose an iron block ranging from 4 to 10 inches, then create your own mold from sand. Trained artists will then birth your artistic creation using fire and brimstone. Food and drinks will be available throughout the day, and found-object sound artists Savage Aural Hotbed will provide rhythmic tunes around 5 p.m.
Sat., Aug. 2, 10 a.m.-8 p.m., 2008
