History of Hip: Booze

The latest wave of cocktail culture has cast an eye backward to the original cocktails. Ingredients have been pulled apart, examined, and recreated using small-batch craft spirits and bitters. The "History of Hip: Booze" lecture, put on by the Minnesota Historical Society at the Turf Club, is turning the spotlight on those classic libations by bringing in the makers of a few artisanal spirits and bitters. On hand will be Adrian Panther of Panther Distillery, which is currently the only licensed distillery in Minnesota. That title won't last long, though, as there are several exciting up-and-comers preparing for their debut on the scene. This includes the forthcoming 11 Wells, a distillery that will be housed in the former Hamm's Brewery well house. Lee Egbert, a partner at 11 Wells, will be in attendance this evening to discuss the project, as well as to showcase his Dashfire Bitters, which liven up any drink. The talk happens downstairs in the Lounge (accessible only by stairs). Call 651-259-3015 for more details. Also, it's a booze event, so only of-age drinkers are allowed. 21+.
