HIJACK & Mad King Thomas: Maybe
Red Eye's annual Isolated Acts series presents a collaboration between Hijack and Mad King Thomas, a harmonic convergence of five women who have separately stormed numerous citadels of contemporary performance. Their defiantly cryptic and rambunctious press release (written, they confess, before they made the show) says it all. Statements like "maybe yes to purple sparkles and feathers" and "where can melancholia and utopia meet?" are cleverly designed to lure us to a performance where "everyone in this room is in this fucking dance." But don't let the cheekiness fool you. These gals (Hijack is the alias of Arwen Wilder and Kristin Van Loon, Mad King Thomas is the aggregate of Tara King, Theresa Madaus, and Monica Thomas) create some of the most sophisticated and carefully honed movement madness around.
