With their Chicago origins, multiple lineups, and winning streaks to rival a dictator's luck at the ballot box, the Phoenix-based Harlem Globetrotters are more sports entertainment than athletic event—a famously giddy mixture of comedy, juggling, and, sure, a big dose of athletic prowess combined with some genuine competition with whatever team gets lined up for them to dance around in an exhibition game. Yet there's a reason these kids' icons fill seats a lifetime after becoming Hanna-Barbera cartoons: They make the sport fun and beautiful, and many of their players have gone on to justified NBA fame.
