Global Soup Cook-Off
Though soup goes by many names (puree, stew, bisque, or, as they say on Arrested Development, "hot ham water"), it really boils down to one thing: a combination of solids and liquids. It is a meal that is recommended for dieters because it is filling, and often low-calorie and healthy. It's a staple food for people feeling under the weather. And it is a billion-dollar industry (just ask Campbell's). In honor of National Soup Month, this Saturday you can enjoy a variety of soups at Midtown, where 13 participating vendors will have soup for sampling. Visitors can taste each one, vote for the one they like best, and take home recipes to try their own soup-making skills. All proceeds collected during the event will benefit Perspectives' Kids Café, which provides educational, nutritional, and mentoring services for at-risk and homeless youth. Come a little early and watch the cooking demonstration at 11 a.m.
