To the best of my knowledge, there are very few musicians described as "a lawsuit waiting to happen," but according to The New York Times, that is exactly what Girl Talk is. Girl Talk, a.k.a. Gregg Gillis, once studied to become a biomedical engineer at Case Western. Now the Pittsburg resident splices top 40 tunes like extra thin deli meat. His mashup creations are ideal for those with short attention spans; half the fun is trying to recognize the beats, sometimes a mere sentence, sampled from a song. If you don't like a sample, simply wait a few seconds for the next. His latest effort, Feed the Animals (Illegal Art), features over 200 songs, taken from musicians ranging from rappers to pop stars to...Kenny Loggins, none of whom were asked for permission. Much like Radiohead has done, Girl Talk is offering the album on a pay-what-you will scale: $10 gets you a CD while $0 gets you mp3s and a survey. With the Death Set and CX KiDTRONiK. 18+.
