Ginger Baker's Jazz Confusion
Cream and Blind Faith vet Ginger Baker is arguably rock's greatest and most influential drummer. But Baker came up playing trad jazz before hooking up with blues bands, and there's no confusing his latest group, featuring longtime James Brown associate Pee Wee Ellis on tenor saxophone, English jazz bassist Alec Dankworth, and Ghanaian percussionist Abass Dodoo. Their repertoire reportedly includes the likes of Monk, Wayne Shorter, and Sonny Rollins, plus originals. Between Cream and Confusion, Baker's life has been a mishmash of triumphs and tribulations fueling the myth and legend: sessions with Fela Kuti, running a Nigerian studio, health and legal issues, cross-genre experiments with Bill Laswell and Nicky Skopelitis, breeding polo ponies, fortunes won and lost, plus a persistent rep for extreme irascibility.
Tuesdays, Wednesdays, 7 p.m. Starts: Oct. 15. Continues through Oct. 16, 2013
