It's around this time of the year that New Year's resolutions start to fall apart. Maybe you snuck a cigarette, or skipped an afternoon at the gym. However, if your resolution included supporting local art, it's way too soon to give up. This weekend, reignite your commitment at Get Lucky 2012, the Soo Visual Arts Center's annual fundraising gala. The reception will feature artwork from more than 40 local artists, including l'etoile magazine's Kate Iverson, Cult Status Gallery owner Erin Sayer, and Chris Larson, the master architect of the indoor treehouse at last year's "Spectacular of Vernacular" exhibition at the Walker Art Center. Food and drink at the reception will be provided by Bryant-Lake Bowl, ChinDian Café, Gigi's Café, and Herkimer. DJ Black Lacquer (a.k.a. Scott Stulen, director of mnartists.org) will provide the soundtrack. In addition to the art and refreshments, a silent auction will feature a selection of artisan jewelry and local business offerings to benefit the center. Regardless of whether you've made it your goal this year to bring more art into your life, Get Lucky 2012 is shaping up to be the blowout art event of this winter.
