Gastro Non Grata: Pre Earth Day Confection Carousel
Gastro Non Grata is the metal-studded white wedding of our food and rock scenes. The events are often set in the area's best rock clubs, which are then packed with savory foods. The crowd is a mix of hungry citizens, musicians, and chefs. This Friday, they'll be breaking out of their meaty bonds and rocking out, hard sugar style, as the party's menu is composed entirely of sweet confections for the first time ever. The marquee name of the night is Michelle Gayer of the Salty Tart. Gayer, a James Beard award-nominated pastry chef, was recently seen holding court at the South Beach Food & Wine event along with the likes of Andrew Zimmern. She's part Julia Child, part Joan Jett, and could probably break Johnny Iunzzini over her knee. Her complex layering of flavors, delicate presentation, and general bad-ass attitude are perfect for the Triple Rock. While she might have the most national exposure, the other chefs in residence will further demonstrate how killer our Twin Cities sweets scene is. Christian Aldrich of Haute Dish will present high-quality elegance wrapped in tongue-in-cheek names, including doughnuts served with eucalyptus chai and pistachios. Dustan Pilnac of Café Levain continues the long tradition of excellent sweet treats from the Harvey McLain empire. All of these confections are served with a side of tunes courtesy of Heavy Deeds, Cactus Blossoms, DJ Shannon Blowtorch, and Michael Gaughan as Little Dog on Top of a Big Dog. Rock, sugar, and roll. 21+.
