Gary Gulman

Comedian Gary Gulman graduated from Boston College with a degree in accounting, but immediately began looking for an escape pod. "I did accounting for a few years after college," he says, "while I was doing standup at night after work. I don't think I could have survived mentally doing that. I would have gone crazy." The hours were his first objection. "Nine to five," he says. "You know what the worst part of a nine to five is? The nine. Noon to five is okay. Nine? I'm not even up at nine. What am I, a farmer?" Had comedy not worked out, Gulman did have another career in mind. "I had this job as a substitute teacher for a couple of years and I really liked that, so maybe I would have gotten a teaching certificate. It's such a noble profession and you can have such an impact on young people." Comedy has worked out, of course, and Gulman continues to hone his craft. "I moved to New York to do more standup in the clubs there," he says. "I just started to talk about more personal things instead of covering the observational humor that I've done in the past. We'll see how that goes." 18+; 21+ later shows.
