Free Ink Day: It's Spring!
Highpoint Center for Printmaking's four Free Ink Days each year are always super fun. Sorry to be blunt, but it's the truth. If you're new to the art of printmaking, they give you an opportunity to try your hand at it, and if you know your way around rollers and blocks, well, it's a chance to try out some ideas for free. Either way, it's a hell of a way to spend a messy afternoon. Plus, you'll walk out with a couple of nice works to decorate your fridge. This season's Free Ink Day has a spring theme, and local artist and children's book illustrator Julie Jersild Roth will be on hand to offer inspiration. If this will be your first time at this event, here are a few tips: Be patient—it's usually pretty crowded, but it's worth waiting for. And don't wear your favorite shirt. It is ink after all, and if you do it right your hands will get dirty. Don't be afraid to ask for help; Highpoint's staff is friendly and they know a thing or two about making nifty prints.
