While they call Philadelphia home, fist-pump-inducing rockers Free Energy boast Minnesota ties to warrant honorary local-band-made-good status. Red Wing natives Paul Sprangers (vocals) and Scott Wells (lead guitar) honed their musical chops in early-'00s Twin Cities bands like Hockey Night and Superhopper. While their James-Murphy-produced 2010 debut, Stuck on Nothing, pegged them as Thin-Lizzy-loving '70s throwbacks, this year's Love Signs sees the band moving their source of inspiration forward a decade. Lead single "Electric Fever" draws shamelessly from the Huey Lewis "Power of Love" playbook, while dreamy synth-sprinkled ballad "Dance All Night" sounds primed for prom night circa 1985.
