The latest chapter of Minneapolis's iconic Foshay Tower is about to begin, and it arrives with something called a pillow menu. No expense was spared when originally constructing the building. Completed in 1929, it boasted lavish mahogany, bronze, and marble. Now, more than 70 years later, the Foshay is again the swankiest of the swanky: In its incarnation as the 229-room W Hotel, it features eye-popping downtown views, and no corners were cut in the restoration. Instead of relying solely on the finest materials nature has to offer, the modern Foshay is a beacon of technology and luxury, with flat-screen TVs, iPod docking stations, and 350-thread count sheets in every room. The Preservation Alliance of Minnesota's Foshay Soiree fundraiser will get you into the hotel with a pricey reservation. The soiree will feature hotel tours, swing dance lessons, hors d'oeuvres, and an auction with proceeds benefiting the organization. The hotel's suites have names such as "Wonderful Room," "Spectacular Room," and "Extreme Wow Room." Really, any of those adjectives could describe the kind of party this will be.
