Don't expect cheery Sister Bertrille (Sally Field, circa 1967) performing aerial stunts, the wings of her wimple flapping. Melissa Birch's version of flying nuns wafts six women aloft in an improvisational dance/theater mélange that conjures up a surreal world best summed up as spooky chic meets relentlessly uncanny. Performers Genevieve Muench, Samantha Johns, Renée Copeland, Rae Anderson, and Sharon Picasso search for the love of God in back channels, and through time travel from the 19th century to the present. Woven into their spiritual journeys are traditionally female activities like cooking, laundry, and (interestingly) giving birth. The mundane meets the miraculous.
Thursdays, 6 p.m. Starts: April 3. Continues through April 17, 2014
