Flint Hills International Children's Festival
We live in one of the top theater districts in the country, so it only makes sense that we put on great shows for kids as well. This weekend features outdoor events at Rice Park and the Landmark Center, where children can enjoy interactive art projects, food from around the world, a butterfly garden, and live performances by CAAM Chinese Dance Theater, hip hop-style dance by the Collective, and Salsa Del Soul to name only a few. Indoor performances continue the one-world, many-arts theme. Intriguing shows include a circus composed of marionettes, the gravity-defying aerial troupe Wise Fool New Mexico, and the Tokounou West African All Ability Dance Company, a troupe whose founding member, Sidiki Conde, lost the use of his legs at age 14. He now flourishes artistically, living his dream as a dancer and musician. Now, if that isn't a great lesson for children, I don't know what is.
