Fiddler on the Roof, one of the most enduring musicals in the history of Broadway, centers on a Jewish father’s efforts to convince his daughters to follow the customs of their faith even while alarming signals of encroaching persecution emerge. The inherent tension of honoring tradition while adapting to evolving mores makes Fiddler ideally suited for Ten Thousand Things (TTT), a group whose productions are revered for stripping away any pomposity to reveal a work’s cultural vitality. Driving this mission from the beginning has been Michelle Hensley, founding artistic director of TTT and the director of this reimagined production. TTT underscores the theme of social transformation with a multiethnic cast headlined by the irrepressibly charismatic Steven Epp and the musical accompaniment of a one-man band, guided by the familiar treatment by composer Jerry Bock, lyricist Sheldon Harnick, and playwright Joseph Stein. Shows are also at MN Opera Center March 9-12. For tickets and more info, visit tenthousandthings.org or call 612-203-9502.
