Felicia Michaels

After taking a break from standup comedy, Felicia Michaels is back. The stripper-turned-comedian began her comedy career when she was 18, but found it difficult getting stage time in Los Angeles. "They'd ask, 'What are you doing here?' And I'd tell them I want to do some standup," she recalls. "They would say, 'You're not a standup, get out of here, kid.'" So for few years she had to rely on her previous profession. Ironically, she found comedy much more frightening. "When I was stripping I was completely sober," she says. "When I began doing standup I started to drink. Show your body naked in front of strangers? I'll do that sober. Tell people your deepest, darkest fears, and try to get them to laugh? I'm going to have to have a drink." Her style has changed a little over the years. "When I started doing it I had nothing in common with the audiences, who were mostly in their late 20s, early 30s," she says. "How's some 19-year-old girl going to tickle their funny bones? So I started talking about sex, and it just took off." She still tackles the subject today, but now adds more experiences from her life as a divorced mother of two. Michaels also co-hosts the popular podcast Beauty and the Beast with fellow comic Joey Diaz. 18+; 21+ later shows.
