Equilibrium: Vicky Grise and Florinda Bryant
The Loft Literary Center's quarterly reading series, Equilibrium, returns this Saturday for a lineup of readers that includes Vicki Grise and Florinda Bryant, with special guests Emmanuel Ortiz, Nimo Farah, and DJ Nak. The two headlining interdisciplinary artists have theater backgrounds, with experience in performance that often has a social justice and activist bent. Loft Spoken Word Immersion Fellow Vicki Grise, who won the 2010 Yale Drama Series Award for her play Blu, has received numerous accolades and fellowships, while facilitating organizational efforts among women, immigrant, Chicano, working class, and queer youth. Florinda Bryant, meanwhile, has been seen performing with the Rude Mechanicals, the Texas theater company that wowed Minnesota audiences at the Walker last year; has collaborated with Obie award-winning artist Laurie Carlos; and writes one-woman shows about identity, body, and community.
