Mixed Blood Theatre never shies away from tackling the troubles of the day head on, often with sharp wit and outlandish comedy, such as in recent shows like Learn to be Latina, Neighbors, and Avenue Q. The ongoing class war is up next for the longstanding Minneapolis institution with a production of Molly Smith Metzler's Elemeno Pea. Mark Valdez, who helmed last year's Learn to Be Latina, returns to direct the story of two sisters who spend some time at a wealthy woman's Martha's Vineyard home. Simone (Grace Gealey) is the personal assistant of Michaela (Laurine Price). Simone's sister, Devon (Sun Mee Chomet), has arrived for a visit. The contrast between the life of the personal assistant and the social worker is the comic spark for the show, which unfolds — in typical Mixed Blood fashion — without intermission over a tight, 90-minute frame. The cast also includes Ron Menzel as Pedro Bayon. (Photo by Rich Ryan)
