Electrifying Minnesota

One hundred and twenty-five years ago, when Minnesota was still the new kid on the U.S. block, one of first hydroelectric dams in the nation was built on St. Anthony Falls. Since then, the availability and variety of sources from which Minnesotans draw electricity has grown substantially. In "Electrifying Minnesota," the Bakken explores this history from the 1880s through the 1950s. Included are art and advertisements, film, and firsthand accounts of state's wiring. The show will also allow visitors to explore their energy use by taking the museum's Minnesota Energy Challenge, a program that shows individuals and companies ways to reduce their energy use and carbon output.
