Being a comedian is the only job Dwight Slade has never been fired from. "I've lost every job I've ever had," he tells an audience. "Never been downsized, never been put on administrative leave, never let-go—I love that one. 'We gotta let you go. You can go, and we'll let ya.'" His first job foreshadowed the rest of his vocational experiences. "My personal record is three days," he says. "I was a cashier at Kentucky Fried Chicken. 'Let's put a guy who wants to be a comedian between fat people and their food. What could possibly go wrong?'" Born in Seattle, Slade's family moved often, settling in Houston for his junior high school years. It was there that he became pals with the comedian Bill Hicks, a friendship that lasted until the legendary comic's passing in 1994. After being a road comic, with family in tow, Slade eventually settled in Portland. Now a single father of two, he has won multiple awards for his standup, and continues to headline clubs across the country. 18+.
