Drama a Comedy or: Apocalypse Tuesday
This time out, Urban Samurai Production's pendulum swings in the direction of a new comedy by local writer Aaron Christopher (when not producing his work, the company stages lean and acute takes on contemporary plays). Drama a Comedy follows Christopher's jaundiced perspective as a distinct, witty, and unsparing satirist of this American moment. The play concerns a couple living alone and stoking their sterile, fear-obsessed mindset until, one evening, everything well and truly goes to hell. Christopher's American Apathy was a can't-miss play of 2008, and one hopes he matches the standard this time out. The man writes with equal measures of affection for, and anger toward, his subjects with a cutting blade of parody delivered by an obviously bleeding heart.
Fridays, Saturdays, 7:30 p.m.; Sundays, 2 p.m.; Mondays, 7:30 p.m. Starts: Feb. 5. Continues through Feb. 21, 2010
