Every Wed., Thu., Fri., and Sat. from June 17-July 16
Artists from the collaborative group Paintallica are taking over SooVAC's gallery this week, employing their improvised, organic style for a new site-specific installation. Made up of artists from all over the United States, including two members from Minnesota (Bruce Tapola of Minneapolis and Josh Wilichowski of Stillwater), the group travels to different cities, embarking on installations composed of chainsaw art and circus lights, with plenty of wood, beer, paint, drawing, and neon thrown in for good measure. After researching the space for a few days (including visits to both SooVAC and its nearby cultural spots and bars), Paintallica worked its magic, reflecting the spirit of the place through the lens of the artists themselves, using tools and imagery from a working-class, rural American aesthetic. There will be an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 17.
