Deviant Art: Dispelling Myths V
Although dogs are said to be man's best friend, some breeds are more likely to be regarded as a menace and potential danger to owners and society at large. Now in its fifth year, "Deviant Art" seeks to assuage the perceptions that some types of dogs — including pit bulls and rottweilers — are bad. For the art show, talents both local and national will be exhibiting paintings, photography, fiber art, and other pieces celebrating pups sometimes framed as problematic, be it via the media or due to crappy pet owners. At the reception there will be friendly dogs on hand, including a pit bull rescued from Michael Vick's property. Proceeds from the event will benefit A Rotta Love Plus, an organization that offers public pet education, advocates humane animal treatment, and specializes in re-homing pit bulls and rottweilers. The main reception and party is Saturday. However, artwork will also be on display from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 7 during First Thursday happenings in the building.
