Deborah Jinza Thayer: Movement Architecture
Deborah Jinza Thayer creates dance theater that is both smart and architecturally sound. This time out, she unites politics and patterns of greed and hierarchy with provocative visual installations to take on four dilemmas of an "advanced" nation—with original live music to boot. "Meet the Nation" translates the political machine into a hive-like hoop structure and culminates in debate gibberish, while "All That Glitters" tackles our instinctual attraction to shiny objects of desire. If all this sounds a bit heady, Thayer is known for work that delivers a visceral punch. Take "Bizarre Mating Ritual," a species-bending work that plays out in a forest of toy baby limbs.
First Thursday-Saturday of every month, 8 p.m.; Sat., Oct. 6, 5 p.m. Starts: Oct. 4. Continues through Oct. 6, 2007
