Dead Man Walking

The 1995 film Dead Man Walking was based on a book by Sister Helen Prejean about her relationship with a condemned convict. It snagged an Oscar for Susan Sarandon, as well as an acting nomination for Sean Penn and a directing nomination for Tim Robbins, who also penned the screen adaptation. Notorious do-gooder Robbins has subsequently written an adaptation for the stage, offering it up to schools and universities in order to promote debate about the death penalty rather than cashing in by taking it to the professional theater. This version is presented by Minneapolis Community and Technical College's Theatre on the Park. It's free, though audience members are requested to bring nonperishable food items for the Emergency Foodshelf Network of Hennepin County.
Wednesdays-Saturdays, 7 p.m.; Saturdays, 1 p.m. Starts: April 9. Continues through April 12, 2008
