Dave Chappelle's return to standup since leaving his groundbreaking Comedy Central television show hasn't been without turbulence, as some recent episodes of disrespectful audiences have shown. But the insightful and hysterically funny comic must have an affinity for playing Minneapolis: Within hours of the out-of-nowhere announcement of four back-to-back shows at First Avenue, tickets were sold out, only to have an additional four shows added shortly afterward, and later a ninth at the Pantages on Friday (612-339-7007). All performances are now sold out (the first four were Monday and Tuesday). The First Ave sets will be more intimate than last year's State Theatre show, and the Mainroom will be a unique setting for a standup set. Still one of the sharpest social critics and most popular comedians working, Chappelle likely has a lot to say at this point in his career, and this will definitely make many nights to remember here in Minnesota. 18+.
