Darjeeling Unscripted

Each Saturday in April and May at HUGE Theater, co-directors Carolyn Blomberg and Meghan Wolff, along with an experienced, talented, and, appropriately, huge cast, aim to tackle a different stage adaptation of auteur Wes Anderson's work. Darjeeling Unscripted: A Yes Anderson Production is a daunting challenge. Anderson's films move from moments of vivid and hilarious weirdness to subtle melancholy with a meticulously paced rhythm. They are colorful and intensely melodic. How do you even begin to contemplate pulling something like that off with no script in a black box theater? "It takes an excellent cast who know Wes Anderson's films and love them," says Blomberg. It also takes maturity, perspective, timing, and a well-honed sense of whimsy. Not every cast would inspire an audience's confidence at the start of an experiment like Darjeeling Unscripted, but this one does. "We specifically chose improvisers who we thought fit into the world of Wes Anderson," she says. The careful casting is evident, and watching them play with and within Anderson's rich pastiche promises to be an improv highlight for spring.
Saturdays, 8 p.m. Starts: April 5. Continues through May 31, 2014
